Members of the OSM Research Foundation
Members will have demonstrated that they are progressive surgeons with a focus on sports medicine. They will have demonstrated a commitment to education, training and a curiosity about new device, materials and techniques. Candidates for membership will be nominated by a current Member. The Membership Committee will review the candidate and provide their recommendation to the Surgeon Advisory Board for consideration. Initial consideration will be given to surgeons from Europe and the U.S. Overtime, the membership may broaden to surgeons from other countries.
Evidence-based Focus
The OSM Research Foundation members will be encouraged to collect data on at least one particular area of research interest. The continuum of the knee will be the primary focus and the continuum of the hip, with particular attention to hip arthroscopy will also be a focus. The OSM Research Foundation will develop and provide the template for data collection in specified areas and it will develop analytical expertise to support its research programs. The OSM Research Foundation is currently developing hand held computing instruments to be used by patients to input demographic and other data related to the condition of their joint. Additional work is underway to allow the patient the opportunity to input data on-line. Patient input data will be electronically incorporated in the OSM Research Foundation data bases. The OSM Research Foundation will maintain databases developed by surgeon Members. Analytical resources will also be available to assist the surgeon to analyze data and prepare it for publication. Member surgeons define patient education and rehabilitation as an integral part of their practice.
Committees
There will be three committees, as follows:
- A Membership Committee to review candidates and propose membership to the Surgeon Board
- A Curriculum Committee to develop curricula for training programs and develop the agenda for the annual meeting
- A Research Committee to review research projects and proposals and to develop models for evidence based surgery.
Each committee will be composed of Members of the OSM Research Foundation.
